Our sustainability Strategy

By Integrating sustainability into early years we can empower children to become environmentally conscious, socially respsonsible citizens.

Sustainability in Early Years education involves teaching young children about the importance of protecting the environment, conserving resources and promoting a healthy and equitable society. Encouraging children to develop a sense of responsibility towards their surroundings.

As a setting we have, over the past ten years, reduced the amount of plastic within the setting, saving energy by having long life led bulbs, reduced lighting in each room as well as energy efficient, electric heating and appliances.

Environmental awareness & sustainability;

Teaching children about the natural world,  allowing children to foster a deep connection with nature through outdoor play and exploration of natural objects.

Understand natural habitats of insects and wildlife and protecting these.

Exploring different plants, gardening, growing  and tidying to look after play spaces.

Water conservation, collecting rainwater for water play, watering plants and vegetables.

Resource management, reduced amount of printing of brochures, pamphlets and eliminating paper invoices to reduce paper waste.

Social Sustainability;

We are present in our local community, coming together and helping village initiatives and events, demonstrating respectful attitudes, equipping the children with good social awareness and relationship skills.

Reducing food waste;

Menus are nutritious and homestyle meals.  It’s not just about feeding bodies but nourishing minds, providing them with energy for fuelling active play.

Meals are cooked fresh each day, using fresh seasonal fruit and vegetables, encouraging hands on involvement with growing, building the children’s understanding of plant to plate.

Careful planning goes into the weekly menus to prevent excess food waste.

We reduce food waste by adopting various methods such as incorporating leftovers into soups, pasta sauces, casseroles & smoothies.

Local economies;

Supporting local farmers/ suppliers for our meat.  Sourcing seasonal fruit and vegetables from allotment.

Principles that underpin our approach.

Reduce; Food wastage

Reuse; Use materials many times and for different purposes in arts & crafts.

Repair; Fix things or repurposing them, rather than replacing.

Recycle; Be aware of alternatives to discarding rubbish.

Respect; Showing care and compassion for all environment, people and animals

“The best classroom and the richest cupboard is roofed only by the sky”

The work we do in our setting is driven by a social purpose, by the desire to make a genuine difference, wanting to make their world a better place by giving all children the best possible start in education.
